A whopping 90% of online buyers say that photo quality is the most important aspect of online purchase.
Thus, making your visual content a determining factor in a sale.
It goes without saying that quality control is essential to effective product photos.
And by the end of this post, you’re going to have a clear blueprint for creating product images that sell.
Your product images work to convert your potential leads into paying customers.
This is why having ineffective product photos could be hurting your sales more than you think. So how do you make quality product images?
Let’s start with the very foundation of good product photos.
Ways On How To Create Product Images That Sells
1. High-quality raw images
Raw photos are the untouched and unedited product images you have that are used for any visual composition you make.
These will serve as the base of your final visuals. If you were cooking, these would be your main ingredients.
And just like cooking, the quality of your ingredients is a key determining factor in the outcome of your final product.
Make sure you have photos of your products that have been taken in a well-lit environment with a staged or solid color background.
You can always add things in post-production.
But at the very least, you need to have good, well-lit raw pictures of your products from different angles to use for editing.

Once you have good raw images in the bank, the next step would be to.
2. Remove dirt and fix imperfections
A picture is worth a thousand words, and your product images visually tell the story of your brand.
If, however, your product images have dirt, dents, and other imperfections in them…
…you’re not able to showcase and tell the story of your products as best you visually can.
Be sure to take the time to double-check your raw images and remove unwanted elements.
Remember, the devil is in the details.
And having product images that are crisp and clean will only help build trust between your business and your potential customers.
There are many applications available for this but when it comes down to it, nothing beats Adobe Photoshop for photo editing and photo manipulation.
Also, keep in mind to fix lighting if needed so it won’t look like this…
…but instead will look like this.
Once you’ve removed unwanted dirt and other elements in your images, the next step in producing product images would be to.
3. Fix angles
It’s hard to photograph images in perfect angles, and you may only notice your images are slightly misaligned after reviewing them in post-processing.
This is when you have to come in and fix angles so that they don’t look off.
This is a very simple step yet it can also be easily overlooked or bypassed.
The thing is our eyes love to see balance and symmetry.
And having your product photos appear to be at the wrong angle could hurt the overall visual impact they give to your audience.
As with any photo editing task, Photoshop is a great software to do this as it should take you no more than a few minutes to rectify your photo’s angles.

4. Check your product images for color accuracy
Did you know that 22% of returns occur because the product looks different in person?
The last thing you want to do is confuse your potential buyers with images that negate each other.
Even more so, you don’t want to frustrate customers when they find out the color of the item they ordered is different from what they expected.
Make sure your product’s colors are visually accurate across the board and are identical to the actual product in real life.
And so here’s our tutorial on how to fix blurry photos to make them more visually accurate when you post them online.
So at this point, you have high-quality raw images of your product, you’ve taken the time to clean up any unnecessary dirt and imperfections…
…you’ve corrected your photos’ angles and corrected any color inaccuracies in your product images.
5. Add variety to how they are set up
This is when you take the opportunity to tell the story of your product through its images.
What will it look like up close? From afar? How does it look when being used?
You’ll want to cover all bases to fully showcase your product and not turn out like these samples.
Whether it be a product listing on your website or social media posts promoting your product…
…be sure you’re not posting what you sell in the same setup and angle for all your images.
Instead, have a variety of different photos, some with your products on a clean plain background.
Some are set up in lifestyle images, and maybe some with them seen at a farther distance.
Don’t be afraid to get creative with the way you stage your product images.
Just remember that your goal is to impress and convince your audience through the visual stories that you tell about your product.
If you’ve already staged your product photos in different backgrounds at your actual photo shoot, you’ll only need to do minimal editing at this point.
For example, you’ll want to fix your lighting if needed.
Or you want to change dimensions, zoom it in for a closer look and the like – this will deliver the most natural-looking photos.
But you can also have fun with your product photos that have been shot with plain backgrounds.
You can do this by staging them in different settings using Photoshop or Canva.
