Earlier this week, we published a post on Facebook video ads.
We told you the basics: from how to choose the right ad objectives, to how to set up campaigns in Facebook Ads Manager, and more.
But how do you design short Facebook video ads?
It may seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be!
In today’s post, we’re going to show you an easy way to design short Facebook video ads using Canva.
Let’s get started.
We’re making ads in video format today, but it’s important to note that for Facebook feed ads…
…the optimal size for both still graphic AND video ads is 1080 x 1080 pixels (aka a square graphic).
Steps On How To Create Short Facebook Video Ads
Step 1: Set Up Your Short Facebook Video Ad Canvas
Let’s go ahead and open Canva.
Click on “create a design” then type in “Facebook feed ad”.
this ad, let’s say we’re a restaurant selling burgers.
We can start with any of these templates Canva has, although we should probably narrow it down to templates that feature food.
So I’m going to type that in the search bar, and now we have a bunch of food themed templates to choose from.
I’ll start with this template over here, it seems like a fairly good fit for what we’ll be placing in it.
Now we can start replacing elements in the template with what will fit our brand.
Step 2: Add Elements To Your Short Facebook Video Ad
We’ve mentioned in a previous video that when designing an ad, you generally should have 4 key things in your graphic:
- A headline,
- Subject image,
- CTA button,
- And a logo.
The same rule applies to your Facebook video ads.
But since you’re making a video instead, you don’t necessarily need to have these key elements in a single frame.
If you happen to have more than one frame in your video, like what we’ll be doing, you can spread your elements out.
It’s important to note that if you are making ads for products similar to this, you’re better off using authentic images of your actual product, rather than using stock images.
So be sure to upload your own product images in Canva.
If you don’t already have existing product shots, we can help!
We have previously tackled how to create quality product shots using your phone, so be sure to check that out if you haven’t already.
So we’re just going to continue with editing this page until we’re happy.
Go ahead and experiment on different fonts that you like, add decorative elements if you feel like something’s missing, and make adjustments to positioning.
This frame features a still image of our product.
And, again, if you’re following along, you ideally should be uploading your own product images and placing it here.
Then let’s remove the background with Canva’s magic background removal button over here.
Let’s play around with the design a bit and duplicate this burger twice, and then set the color effect to this orange one.
Our first frame is good, so we can now decide on what pre-set animation available here would fit our video ad best.
We like this one for our product.
Step 3: Add Additional Frames To Your Short Facebook Video Ad
Now we can move on to the next frame. Let’s go with this template.
Then we can go ahead and utilize a video of the product for the 2nd frame.
Again, if you have a video of your actual product, it would be great to add that here.
But, using stock videos should be fine if we don’t technically show the product in it’s final form.
We don’t want to possibly mislead our clients on what the product they’re getting would look like.
For this instance, instead of a stock video of the burger, we can instead use a stock video of the burger patties getting grilled.
Edit the length of the video like so.
And since we don’t have a call to action button yet, let’s add that here.
We already have a logo in our first frame, but this space here looks kind of empty, so we’re going to place our logo in this frame as well.
Double check if your four key elements are shown at least once in your ad, and once you’re happy with the output, go ahead and save it as an mp4 file.
And here’s our final design:
And that’s it for today’s guide.
Getting high-quality advertisements doesn’t have to be hard, and anyone can design short Facebook video ads using this method.
