Today, we’re talking about YouTube marketing. As we know by now, a video marketing strategy is so powerful.
And we’ve been highly encouraging everyone we know to start making videos.
Because doing so, without question, will help you establish a stronger connection with your audience.
That’s why in this post, we want to reveal 5 strategies you can do for your YouTube marketing in 2023 to get to your first 10,000 subscribers.
But of course, let’s address the elephant in the room. Our channel doesn’t quite have 10k subscribers yet, but in our case, it’s only a matter of time.
We’ve been taking YouTube seriously for the last 4 months and gained 702 subscribers in the last 30 days.
And growing faster every month.
So we want to share with you some things we are doing to achieve this growth.
Ok, let’s go ahead and dive in with our first 2023 YouTube marketing tip.
How To Establish Your Goal In YouTube Marketing?
Just like any other social media platform. The main reason people come to YouTube is to learn or be entertained.
And if you can do both, then you’re already a step ahead of the competition.
So if you’re a small business and you’re looking to promote your business…
Then more than likely, you’re going to want to educate your audience while establishing yourself as a thought leader on a particular topic.
Now the big thing you need to know about YouTube is this…
We’ve noticed that the majority of users are at the very beginning stages of their knowledge on most topics.
So you need to understand that the majority of viewers may not be highly qualified leads.
They need more education and time to get to know you and most importantly, the value that you bring to your audience.
So once you understand that and fully accept it, then you can move on to establishing your goal.
And like most things, once you establish your goal, then you will be able to easily see which strategy you need to take in order to achieve your goal.
So let’s quickly look at a marketing funnel- which by the way we break down marketing funnels fully in another post. You can check out this post about the marketing funnel here.
So you have awareness, interest, consideration, intent, evaluation and purchase.
Most, NOT ALL, but most of your organic viewers will come in at the awareness level.
Then it’s going to be up to you to move those organic viewers down to the interest level, the consideration level, and so on.
So if you’re okay with this, then that means you’re okay with committing to a long term strategy.
A long term strategy is great because it can give some long term benefits.
The content you make today can have compounding effects and bring in new viewers for years to come.
However, you’re going to have to really commit and be willing to put in some work yourself and possibly hire a small team to help you out.
So a goal that is most related to a long-term strategy would be to generate awareness.
And you’ll need to keep this in mind with all your YouTube marketing – that your goal is to build brand awareness.
Ok, so if going long-term is just completely out of the question, then you can opt to take a short-term strategy with your YouTube marketing.
So going back to our marketing funnel, you have the potential to skip to the consideration/intent level with the power of YouTube advertising.
Which we’ll get into a little bit more the specifics of that later in this post.
For now, the most important thing to understand is that with YouTube advertising, you’re going to need to spend money… pretty much forever.
If you want to keep attracting new visitors, then you’ll need to constantly pay for views.
Now the goal most related to a short-term strategy would be to generate quality traffic, leads or sales.
Okay, so now that we have that foundation, let’s get into some strategies.
5 Proven YouTube Marketing Strategies
1. Leverage External Audiences
This strategy is mainly for anyone looking to grow organically or for the long-term.
And this is quite obvious, but still very often overlooked.
What we mean is that if you are online, if you have any kind of base whatsoever, regardless of how large or small, then use it to build your YouTube audience.
You can use your email list to send out email newsletters whenever a new video releases. If you don’t have an email list yet, then read this post next to learn some email list building tips.
You can embed your videos on your website or your blog.
You can use your social media channels like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and more.
You can send a text messaging campaign or put a sign up in your location.
The main message here is that if you have an existing audience, then use it! For us, about 30% of our traffic comes from external sources.
So it’s helped us out a lot.
2. Create Valuable YouTube Content Consistently
Now let’s move onto our second strategy for YouTube marketing in 2023.
This could apply for a short-term or long-term strategy. Although since we used the word “consistently,” it is a little bit more skewed towards a long term strategy.
But either way, if you are going to be creating videos on YouTube, then you’d better make sure that people actually want to watch them.
And the best way to ensure your chances of success is by making sure you are bringing value to your audience.
As we mentioned earlier, people are on YouTube to learn and be entertained.
So what are some ways to create value? We’re going to do a rapid fire of 6 ideas that can help you get started.
-
Idea #1 – Q&A
Take questions and give answers.
It’s no secret that in 2023, we are a big fan of going live and interacting with your audience in real-time. You can bring immediate value and connection.
-
Idea #2 – Humor
Make people laugh.
If you happen to have a charismatic or witty personality, then this is going to be one of your super powers on YouTube.
-
Idea #3 – Go BTS (behind the scenes)
People love to go behind the curtain and see how things are made, operated, or just see what your life is like.
Many YouTubers have millions of subscribers by just doing a daily vlog.
-
Idea #4 – Breaking News
If you can be first to share an opinion about breaking news around your industry, that is a surefire way to bring immediate value.
-
Idea #5 – Tips & Trick
Just like the video at the top of this post, bringing value to people by sharing your experience and tips can be another way to bring value.
-
Idea #6 – Case Studies or Before/After
For those who are into working out, they would surely love a transformation video that explains what those people did to achieve their success.
The same concept can be applied across the board to successful case studies across industries.
So there’s 6 ideas, but the possibilities are endless. The key is to think carefully about what your audience may need and bring it in video form.
3. YouTube SEO
Okay, so SEO stands for search engine optimization. It’s something that is commonly practiced on text rich search engines like Google or Bing.
But there’s also such a thing as YouTube SEO which is basically the process of optimizing your videos to show up when someone searches for your related video.
For example, when we search for “marketing budget” on YouTube, then our video on how to calculate your marketing budget shows up.
Now, if you are taking a long-term, organic YouTube marketing approach, then this has to be in your strategy.
To implement this, the first thing you need to do is think about what your audience may be searching for or do some research.
It becomes even more important to know who your audience is and what they want to know.
Once you have that down, you need to move into some technical optimization.
A lot of this happens when you are uploading your video. Some of the basics that you need to make sure you have are:
- You have your target search keyword in the video title.
- You have optimized your video’s description.
- You have added relevant and related tags to your video.
- You have properly categorized your video.
- You added a custom thumbnail that can grab the viewer’s attention.
Now believe it or not, this is only scratching the surface and there’s a lot more to know about YouTube SEO.

4. Use YouTube Ads
Now in 2020, we spent $11,005.80 on YouTube ads from August 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
YouTube ads are a great way to reach more people at a very affordable price.
For many of our videos, our cost per view was on average just 10 cents.
Now how do YouTube ads work?
First, you need a video. So you still want to refer back to strategy #2 and make sure you are posting great content.
Once you have your video uploaded, then you’ll head over to your Google ads account.
Why Google ads? Well if you didn’t know, Google actually owns YouTube, so all of your YouTube advertising is done through their ads manager.
You’ll start a new video campaign and then choose your targeting.
The targeting options for YouTube ads are extremely powerful and what allows you to get to that consideration/intent phase that we talked about earlier.
So for example, if you want to target someone who is specifically looking for “dog walking services,” then you can input that keyword into your targeting.
Even more, Google has what are called “in market” audiences, so based on a user’s search behavior, it can tell which users may be in the market to buy.
For example, there is an in market audience for people who are looking for “pet supplies.”
You can also include or exclude certain age groups or genders to ensure you’re paying for the people that you want to reach.
Then, once you launch your YouTube ad, you want to monitor.
Make sure the costs aren’t rising too high and that your ad is actually being served to your desired audience.
5. Combine All Strategies
If you want fast growth and fast results, then try combining some of these strategies. Ok, sure you could stick to just one, but doing them all gives you more speed.
And this is exactly what we did.
And as a result, in the last 30 days alone we’ve been able to get a total of 2600+ subscribers on two different YouTube channels.
Which is why we’re so confident that we will break 10,000 new subscribers this year.
Final Takeaways
So give it a shot and start making some videos.
And by the way, we often get asked how long our videos should be. So last week, we made a post on video length for not just YouTube but all the social media channels.
