Boring brand visuals don’t sell.
So in this tutorial, we’re going to teach you a simple visual design trick that’ll add dimension to any designs you make for your brand.
When creating digital marketing graphics, you want your designs to be visually engaging.
There is a simple way to instantly add dimension to any brand visual you design though.
Whether it be for product images or photos you have of a service you offer this trick will work for both.
Funny enough it’s such a simple trick but most people skip over it but it can make such a huge difference in the overall design.
The Visual Design Trick? Playing With Layers
With this visual design trick, you can turn this
into this.
Or this
to this.
Makes a difference doesn’t it?
Introducing dimension to your designs this way adds visual intrigue…
…and keeps someone’s attention for longer making your visual more likely to be engaged with.
You can apply this to most social media graphics for your brand – whether it be for product images or photos you have of a service you offer.
Of course, this visual design trick applies to any design software you’re using.
But if you’re using Canva with a pro account this becomes an even easier process with the background remover tool and the layer tab.
So let’s say you have a product image uploaded into your design canvas, make sure it’s selected so you can go ahead and click the background remover button.
Once you’ve color-corrected your image, and added your text and graphic elements, you can start playing around with layering.
To do this, click on the position button and then click on the layers tab.
You can arrange layers and then have your graphic elements overlap with one another.
Just be sure you’re not going overboard and covering too much of what’s important but instead just introducing a bit of playfulness in your design.

Now that you have a design with more dimension to it, you can save it as a still image, but why stop there?
Once you’ve arranged your layers, we can turn a still image into a motion graphic by choosing any of the preset animations.
Just be sure to pick one that fits your brand and graphic output.
For example, if you’re making graphics for a law firm, the sketchbook preset might not be for you.
But something like fade animation would be a perfect fit.
