Artificial Intelligence is officially in Canva and we’re going to walk you through how to use its powerful new AI tools to edit your photos like a pro.
Ever find a photo that would have been perfect to use for your business but had that one thing ruined it?
Or, maybe you would have wanted to use it but it LACKED something?
Canva’s new AI tools are perfect for these instances and will help you render edits that will tailor your photos to your specific needs.
How To Use AI Tools In Canva
1. Magic Erase
Jumping right into a blank Canva page here, you’ll need to use Canva’s new photo editing UI.
If you don’t already use this, simply click on “Edit photo” and click on this button here to proceed to the new photo editing UI.
With the magic erase tool, we can select a part of a photo and remove the item in that selected area.
To do this, simply brush over the part of your image you want to omit. Once you release your brush, it’ll then use AI to remove whatever is in that area.
Now we can then add whatever image we want to that blank space.
2. Magic Edit
So let’s say we want to add things to our image, that’s where the magic edit tool comes in.
Before we proceed to that though, it’s important to note that you can’t stack a magic edit tool with the magic erase tool.
So if you’ve already used the erase tool on an image and then want to use the magic edit tool or vice versa…
…download your rendered background first and load the image into your canvas before you proceed to the next tool.
To use the magic edit tool, select it, adjust your brush size brush over the area you want to generate an image into and click on Continue.
It’s now saying to describe what to generate. We want a pen in this area so we’re going to type in “pen”.
We can then select one of the options shown to us or generate a new batch.
Once we find a generated image we want to use, we can click Select and now we’ll have the item in the area we want.
Now for the fun bit of how to use AI tools in Canva, there’s the…
3. Text to Image AI
To access this, simply hover over your leftmost Canva tools, scroll down, click on Apps, and select the text to image thumbnail.

Not exaggerating, you can absolutely have fun with this. You can even use it for memes relevant to your business because the limit is your imagination.
