There is a new FREE tool Facebook has introduced and we currently don’t know how long this tool will be free.
So read this post as we’re going to discuss how business owners can take advantage of it before it’s too late.
The new tool is called Marketing Messages, and this is different from your Facebook or Meta Suite Inbox.
Facebook marketing messages “is a new premium feature currently available to all businesses in a free trial period…
…where you can send personalized, interactive messages in Messenger.”
Facebook says, “Send personalized messages to people who care about your business on the channel they prefer.”
What Is Facebook Marketing Messages And How Does It Work?
There are 3 main components to it.
- You’ll send targeted, timely promotions.
Engage subscribers with targeted promotions that are welcome, relevant, and arrive at exactly the right moment.
- You’ll nurture relationships.
Proactively message people across the customer journey to deliver results faster.
- You’ll build on your results.
Marketing messages help you get open rates and conversions that outperform email.
Outperform email?! Those are some big claims, Facebook! The average ROI of email marketing is $36 for every $1 spent.
And Facebook is essentially saying Marketing Messages is going to outdo that with their conversions.
Facebook says, “Use campaign insights to continuously improve performance.”
How To Set Up Facebook Marketing Messages
To get to Marketing Messages, open up the Meta Business Suite and you should see the new Marketing Messages icon on the left.
Click that icon to get to the Get Started screen.
So essentially, you’ll first want to set up what they call a Welcome Automation.
This is a message that will automatically get sent to new subscribers from your Facebook business page.
Click Get Started, and it’ll take you to the first step.
Step #1: Create a welcome campaign
It says, “Your welcome campaign will be the first message people see after they subscribe.”
Consider giving subscribers access to exclusive content or a special offer.
So you can scroll through and customize your message, decide if you want your message format to:
- have an image,
- be a headline with no image, or
- have longer text with no image.
Whichever you decide will automatically update on the right for you to preview how it will look.
Customize your headline and body text, your label, and your link. Note that any promo codes you add here must also be enabled on your website.
Simply adding a promo code to this marketing message won’t make the promo code magically work on your website.
You’ll need to enable that first with whatever website you have and then enter in the appropriate promo code here.
So again, this is for a welcome campaign, which automatically sends when someone subscribes to your business.
Subscribers are people who agree to receive updates and promotions from you in Messenger.
You can hit Next to preview after everything looks one last time and launch.
Or if you don’t want to set up a welcome automation, you can skip this step altogether and go to the next step in setting up your Facebook Marketing Messages.
Step #2: Invite people to subscribe
Your subscribers may include people who’ve recently messaged with you in Messenger, people who show interest in your business, or people who click on your ads.
With this screen, you’re creating the message that gets sent to people INVITING them to subscribe.
So this is getting sent to non-subscribers, and you want the message to tell them why they should subscribe.
You can edit your greeting, add an image to get their attention, and even add a thank you message that will automatically get sent when they do subscribe.
Facebook also gives you the option to offer a discount for subscribing, which could be the incentive or push your audience to opt-in.
Now again, you can complete this step now or skip it and go to the next step.
Step #3: Go to overview
Once you click on the Overview screen, this is now the screen you’ll see when you click on your Facebook Marketing Messages.
You can hit the blue button to create a campaign, or if you scroll down, you’ll see some prompts to get you started.
There’s the welcome campaign from Step 1 and the subscriber invitation from Step 2.
Then they also have a prompt to create ads that click to subscribe, which will take you to the Ads Manager to set up.
Now here’s a quick tutorial on how to create Facebook ads for beginners that can help you get started.
- Announcements, offers, or custom
If you’re totally new to creating automation in general, we would definitely recommend you use one of their prompts before trying to create one on your own.
- Performance overview
Once you start gaining subscribers and sending messages, be it a one-time message or automation that sends every time a certain action takes place-
-all of that performance data will start appearing here.
- Marketing Messages
On the left-hand side menu underneath Overview, we’ve got Marketing Messages…
…where you can see any one-time campaigns or automated campaigns you’ve created.
- Grow your subscriber’s tab
This is where we’ve got subscriber insights that will populate as you receive them.
It also has strategy suggestions to help you grow your subscribers, prompts to send one-time or automated subscriber invitations, and a place to manage them.
But if you want to develop a Facebook marketing strategy for your business, here’s what to read next.
Now we want to wrap up this post with some things that’ll actually make this tool HELPFUL to you.
2 Things To Remember With Facebook Marketing Messages
1. Think of these like the Facebook version of an email or text message campaign.
The goal here is to get people to subscribe and THEN to purchase (or contact you, whatever best suits your business model).
You can’t send promotional messages to a subscriber list that doesn’t exist. So the first goal with these should be to get subscribers.
2. Be strategic with what you put in these messages.
If you gain subscribers, don’t waste the exposure you’re getting with them, or else you could just easily lose them.
These marketing messages are new for both business owners and customers alike.
People are used to receiving emails from businesses or text messages from retailers that they signed up for just to get that extra 15% off discount.
But customers may not be used to that style of messaging from businesses on Facebook yet.
So, don’t squander the opportunity to put your messaging in front of fresh, targeted eyes.
Be thoughtful about your messaging and take a minute to understand what is it that your audience would want to see from you.
What would get them to subscribe?
A discount? Exclusive tips about xyz? XYZ being a goal they want to achieve or a problem they’re trying to solve as it relates to your product or service.
Think about what your customer wants and finds value in, and promise them that if they subscribe.
That will start bringing the subscribers in, then make sure you deliver on what you’ve promised with the automation they get from you after they’ve subscribed.
